Overview

• Dispatchers received a 911 call at 5:09 p.m. reporting a man in distress near a kayak at the south end of the reservoir.
• Responders located the kayak but not the man, and the operation moved from rescue to recovery by the evening.
• The Larimer County Sheriff's Office closed the area south of Dam 1 for ongoing recovery efforts, with the north end remaining open.
• An off-duty Loveland firefighter began the search before Larimer County rangers, Berthoud Fire, Loveland Fire Rescue, the sheriff’s office, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s marine team joined.
• Authorities have not determined a cause and asked the public to avoid the closed area or share tips with Investigator Ryan Gebhardt at 970-498-5586.
