Overview
- Northern Railway completed the first auto-rake delivery to the Kashmir Valley, unloading 116 Maruti Suzuki vehicles at the Anantnag Goods Shed.
- The train left Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar in-plant Gati Shakti Terminal on October 1 and traveled about 850 km in roughly 45 hours, reaching on Friday morning.
- Maruti Suzuki became the first automaker in India to deliver cars to the Valley by rail, using a rake of 25 New Modified Goods wagons for the shipment.
- The route ran over the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla link, including a crossing of the Chenab River’s record-high arch bridge commissioned earlier this year.
- Rail officials and local dealers say direct rail delivery will cut transport costs, speed distribution, and ease highway traffic, extending freight gains after recent cement and apple runs.
