Carrefour Pulls PepsiCo Products from Stores in Four European Countries

The supermarket chain cites unacceptable price increases as the reason for the decision.

  • Carrefour, a global supermarket chain, will stop selling PepsiCo products in its stores in France, Belgium, Spain, and Italy due to price increases for popular items like Lay’s potato chips, Quaker Oats, Lipton tea, and Pepsi.
  • PepsiCo has raised prices by double-digit percentages for seven straight quarters, most recently hiking by 11% in the July-to-September period.
  • PepsiCo's profits are up, though higher prices have led to a decrease in sales as consumers opt for cheaper stores.
  • PepsiCo has also been reducing package sizes to meet consumer demand for convenience and portion control.
  • PepsiCo has attributed its rising prices to higher costs for grain and cooking oil, which surged following Russia’s invasion in Ukraine.
