Carney to Visit Mexico Sept. 18–19 for Talks With Sheinbaum

Officials frame the trip as a business-focused follow-up to recent G7 contacts.

Overview

  • Mexico confirmed the official visit for September 18–19, including a meeting at Palacio Nacional on September 18 and a joint press conference.
  • The Canadian delegation will include three or four cabinet members, the prime minister’s chief of staff and senior business leaders.
  • The agenda will address bilateral priorities and North American coordination under T‑MEC, with investment announcements and joint communiqués anticipated.
  • Preparatory meetings focused on cooperation against fentanyl and public‑health challenges, involving Kevin Brosseau, Tricia Geddes and RCMP Commissioner Michael Duheme in talks with Roberto Velasco.
  • The visit builds on a July call and earlier G7 discussions and will be the first trip to Mexico by a Canadian prime minister since 2017.
