Carnegie International Unveils First 14 Commissions, Sets 2026 Exhibition Run

The museum sets a commissioning-led program anchored in local partnerships.

  • The museum named 14 artists plus the Tokyo-based Sogetsu Foundation to debut new, commissioned projects.
  • The exhibition runs 2 May 2026 to 3 January 2027 across the Carnegie Museum of Art and four partner sites: the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, the Kamin Science Center, the Mattress Factory, and the Thelma Lovette YMCA.
  • Curators Ryan Inouye, Danielle A. Jackson, and Liz Park lead this edition, with John Tain starting as director of curatorial affairs on 8 December.
  • Highlighted projects include a planetarium animation by Torkwase Dyson, a sound work by Alia Farid linking the Shatt Al Arab marshlands with Pittsburgh, camera experiments by Eric Gyamfi, and G. Peter Jemison’s van-based presentation of Haudenosaunee artists.
  • The museum said 30 to 40 additional participants will be announced in the coming weeks, bringing the roster to roughly 50.
