Carmel Nurse Practitioner Arrested in 8-Month Probe Into Alleged Prescription Fraud

Prosecutors are reviewing the case following an eight-month federal-local investigation.

Overview

  • Katherine N. Curtis, 34, was arrested and booked on preliminary counts that include possession of a narcotic drug, dealing by a licensed practitioner, identity deception and obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.
  • Detectives executed search warrants on Oct. 23 at her Carmel office and home and reported recovering additional evidence.
  • The investigation, led by IMPD task force officers with the DEA Tactical Diversion Section and Carmel Police, began after several pharmacies reported suspicious and possibly excessive prescriptions.
  • Investigators allege she over-prescribed controlled medications, wrote fraudulent prescriptions and used other practitioners’ identities, including for drugs ranging from ketamine to Adderall.
  • The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office will decide on formal charges, and records link Curtis to Reclaim Wellness and Mind & Body Healthcare as more than a dozen people and a former employee leveled unverified complaints reported by local media.
