Carlsbad Bicyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run, 27-Year-Old Arrested on Suspected DUI and Manslaughter
License plate readers, a drone, community tips led police to a nearby arrest.
Overview
- Officers responded around 4:34 a.m. to the 4400 block of Carlsbad Boulevard, where a bicyclist was found deceased in the roadway.
 - The driver, identified by police as Alexander Gendron, 27, of Escondido, was located about a mile from the scene and detained.
 - Gendron was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene, DUI causing injury or death, and vehicular manslaughter, with booking expected at the Vista Detention Facility.
 - Alcohol is believed to be a factor, the victim’s identity is being withheld pending family notification, and the Medical Examiner will release the name later.
 - Northbound Carlsbad Boulevard is closed between Tamarack Avenue and Cannon Road during the investigation, and witnesses are asked to call 442-339-2282.
