Carlisle Man Charged With Attempted Homicide in Stairwell Attack on Pregnant Woman

Overview

• Police identified the suspect as 42-year-old Odudu A. Ukpanah and say the Nov. 7 assault occurred in a stairwell at The Residences at Seven Gables on Buchannon Drive in Carlisle.
• A delivery driver told investigators he saw the victim thrown down the stairs, choked on the ground, and her head slammed into concrete before the assailant returned and struck her again.
• Responding officers found the woman barely conscious with severe head wounds and followed a trail of blood to a nearby apartment where Ukpanah was located wearing bloody clothes.
• He is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, aggravated assault of an unborn child, and strangulation, according to police and court records.
• The victim, who was about three months pregnant, was taken to Penn State Holy Spirit Medical Center, her condition has not been disclosed, and a preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 26 after bail was denied.
