Carey Mulligan recently shared her experience of auditioning for the lead role in 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo', revealing she went 'all in' and even changed her appearance to fit the film's aesthetic.
Mulligan auditioned three times for the role, twice with director David Fincher, who she described as 'very specific' and 'direct'.
Despite her efforts, which included almost dying her hair black and wearing a nose ring, Mulligan did not secure the role.
The role ultimately went to Rooney Mara, who received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in 2012 for her performance.
Mulligan, who is currently up for awards for her performance in Bradley Cooper’s 'Maestro', reflected on the audition as a valuable experience.
