Caretaker Arrested in Abuse of Two Autistic Brothers at Illegal Dehradun Boarding School

Seizure of CCTV footage has prompted a temporary school closure as child protection authorities initiate an investigation.

Overview

  • Two autistic brothers, aged 9 and 13, were allegedly tortured with cigarette burns and iron-rod beatings and sexually abused by 29-year-old caretaker Monu Pal at an unlicensed Dehradun boarding facility.
  • The abuse came to light on May 30 when the boys’ mother visited and they disclosed the mistreatment, leading her to file a police complaint the next day.
  • Monu Pal was arrested on May 31 and charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
  • Police have seized DVRs containing CCTV recordings from the premises and arranged medical examinations and specialist interviews for the victims.
  • The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the Child Welfare Committee are overseeing the probe while the illegally operated school remains closed pending further review.
