Overview
- The blaze began shortly after 6 a.m. in a resident's room at the Virgen de la Encarnación facility in Ciudad Real province.
- Of the 96 residents evacuated, 91 were relocated to the town’s municipal sports hall and five were collected by relatives.
- Three people were taken to the Hospital General Universitario de Ciudad Real for smoke inhalation—two staff members aged 54 and 56 and one resident—while about twenty received on-site care.
- Firefighters from Daimiel and Ciudad Real, supported by Guardia Civil, a UVI mobile unit, seven ambulances and Red Cross volunteers, brought the fire under control and extinguished it.
- The privately run residence, managed by Enoc Corporación Geriátrica under contract with the regional government, is under official investigation with no cause or liability yet determined.
