Cardiff Court Fines Fake-Wedding Fraudster for Breaching Unpaid Work Order

The judge ruled she failed to comply after repeated absences left 55 hours of community service outstanding.

Overview

  • Charlotte Blackwell, 31, forged flight and hotel bookings to obtain £12,682 from relatives and friends for a non-existent overseas wedding.
  • She earlier defrauded children's cancer charity Morgan's Army of £4,000 by falsely claiming her daughter needed treatment in Germany, receiving a suspended 10-month sentence.
  • Cardiff Crown Court was told she attended 21 of 34 unpaid work appointments, with three unacceptable absences and two non-compliant sessions recorded.
  • She was fined £50 and ordered to pay £150 in costs, with a warning to complete the remaining hours and adhere to rehabilitation and work requirements.
  • Judge Jonathan Rees KC ordered compensation of £3,500 each to Paula Thomas, Sue Chapman and Helen Morse, and £3,250 to Tracey Roberts, after an administrative error had prevented the related cases from being linked.
