Overview
- The ROS, with the provincial command, executed custody orders issued by a GIP at the request of the Reggio Calabria anti-mafia directorate led by Giuseppe Borrelli.
- Charges include mafia-type association, extortion, money laundering and self-laundering, illegal weapons possession, bid rigging in public tenders, aiding, and fraudulent transfer of assets, all with the mafia-method aggravation.
- Among those detained is 80-year-old boss Pino “Facciazza” Piromalli of Gioia Tauro, identified as the principal promoter and organizer in the case.
- Piromalli had been free since 2021 after serving 22 years under the 41-bis regime and was arrested in 1999 following six years as a fugitive.
- The investigation is coordinated by deputy prosecutor Stefano Musolino, with a press conference scheduled at 10:30 at the provincial Carabinieri command in Reggio Calabria.
