The incident occurred on Presidents' Day when a car veered off West El Camino Avenue in Sacramento and fell onto northbound lanes of Interstate 5.
Dashcam footage shows the car becoming airborne, flipping multiple times, and landing upside down on the freeway.
The driver, who was critically injured, was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition; no other injuries were reported.
Debris, including tree branches, also fell onto the highway, narrowly missing other vehicles.
Sections of West El Camino Avenue were temporarily closed as authorities cleared the scene and investigated the crash.
