Overview

  • The crash occurred shortly after 7:20pm on June 6 when the Kings’ silver Ford Mondeo left Alum Bay New Road and fell about 300ft into the water near The Needles.
  • Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed the victims as 67-year-old bus driver John King and his 66-year-old wife Lynn, and stated their two Dachshunds also perished.
  • Coastguard units, lifeboat volunteers, firefighters and ambulance crews responded immediately, recovering occupants from the wreck and performing CPR on one casualty.
  • Neighbours report that Lynn had been too frail to leave home for two years and that John, who worked for Southern Vectis, served as her full-time carer.
  • Enquiries at the couple’s Cowes home have been conducted on behalf of the coroner as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
