Overview

  • Police and fire officials said the explosion occurred around 6:52–6:55 pm near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, igniting nearby vehicles.
  • Six cars, two e‑rickshaws and one autorickshaw were gutted, and seven fire tenders brought the blaze under control by about 7:29 pm, according to the Delhi Fire Services.
  • At least eight people were killed and up to 24 injured, with victims taken to LNJP Hospital, police and hospital officials confirmed.
  • Multi‑agency teams from the Delhi Police Special Cell, NIA, NSG and the forensics lab are processing the cordoned site, as high alerts were issued in Delhi and states including Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
  • The blast followed a major explosives seizure in Faridabad earlier in the day, a connection officials have not confirmed, and police live updates reported one suspect apprehended.
