CAQM Flags 17 Road-Dust Violations on Delhi Ring Roads

The inspection drive signals a push to make road-owning agencies step up sweeping and removal of construction debris to curb particulate pollution.

Overview

  • Four CAQM flying-squad teams inspected 25 stretches covering about 35 km of the Inner and Outer Ring Roads on Saturday and recorded 17 violations for visible road dust and accumulated construction-and-demolition waste.
  • The checks covered carriageways and roadsides under the Delhi Public Works Department’s jurisdiction and were carried out as part of the commission’s Operation Clean Air campaign.
  • CAQM has directed the PWD and other concerned agencies to take priority corrective measures and said similar inspection drives will continue across Delhi-NCR to find and fix compliance gaps.
  • The commission warned that loose road dust and C&D debris can be blown into the air by passing traffic, raising fine and coarse particulate matter and worsening ambient air quality for people who live and work nearby.
  • Operation Clean Air uses on‑the‑ground inspections to enforce dust control rather than to measure ambient pollution levels, so the immediate outcome is orders for road maintenance and stricter sweeping, with follow-up drives planned.
