Overview

  • On August 10, CAPUFE deactivated all IAVE TAGs with serials starting “009,” prompting a mandatory MXN 90 replacement that activates within 48 hours.
  • The agency continues shifting the majority of federal highway lanes to electronic TAG readers, maintaining cash lanes only during the transition before a January 2026 deadline.
  • TAG interoperability now covers IAVE, PASE, Televía, EasyTrip and ViaPass devices, but many non-CAPUFE roads and concessions remain outside the agreement framework.
  • Motorists can recharge TAGs via CAPUFE’s web portal and individual provider apps, topping up balances from MXN 50 up to MXN 10,000 to avoid slowdowns at toll plazas.
  • The IMT estimates that full telepeaje adoption could cut average crossing times from 25 to 4 seconds and lower operating costs by up to 90%, though nationwide gaps persist.
