Captured Fox in Aberdeen Tests Positive for Rabies After Biting Two Residents

After officials confirmed rabies in the captured fox, residents are being urged to steer clear of wildlife displaying aggressive behavior

  • The same wild fox attacked two unrelated people on Aug. 11, first on Midway Road at about 8:05 a.m. and then on Sycamore Street around 8:35 a.m.
  • Moore County deputies captured the animal and a state laboratory confirmed its rabies infection on Aug. 12
  • Both bite victims, including Jordan Burns and an unidentified 77-year-old man, received prompt medical treatment and are expected to recover
  • Local law enforcement and Moore County Animal Services have advised residents not to approach animals acting unusually or aggressively
  • Anyone encountering strange or aggressive wildlife in the Aberdeen area is asked to call Moore County Animal Services at 910-947-2858
