Overview
- Approximately 22 to 23 adults aged 18 to 58 were aboard the 35-foot Carver vessel when it erupted in flames near Hart Island around 8 p.m. on June 7.
- FDNY Marine 4 firefighters rescued three passengers from the water after spotting the blaze while the remaining individuals swam ashore to safety.
- Three people were taken to local hospitals with injuries reported as critical, serious or stable, and the others were evaluated after being evacuated to City Island.
- Capt. Joshua Brito, 33, was arrested on June 8 and charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless endangerment.
- NYPD Harbor and Aviation units joined FDNY and Coast Guard teams in the complex rescue and are aiding the ongoing investigation.
