Capitol Police Recruit Killed in Georgia Car Crash During Training Program

The accident claimed the life of Christopher Katz, injured five others, and occurred while the recruits were off duty in Glynn County.

A U.S. Capitol Police recruit, Christopher Katz, died in a car crash in Glynn County, Georgia, on Saturday night while off duty during a training program.
Five other recruit officers were injured in the crash and were airlifted to a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, for treatment.
The recruits were undergoing training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick, Georgia, and had joined the department in November 2024.
Congressional leaders expressed condolences, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Representative Joseph Morelle pledging to honor Katz’s memory when the House reconvenes.
The Georgia State Police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the crash, and wellness resources have been made available to Capitol Police staff.
