Overview
- Speaker Mike Johnson led the Dec. 2 ceremony, with nine-year-old essay contest winner Grady Armstrong pushing the switch.
- The tree, a red fir from Nevada’s Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, is nicknamed Silver Belle and stands 53 feet tall.
- Roughly 6,000 LED lights and thousands of community-made ornaments decorate the display, many crafted by children across Nevada.
- The tree will be illuminated nightly from sundown to 11 p.m. and remain on view through Jan. 1 on the Capitol’s West Lawn.
- Silver Belle traveled about 3,000 miles to Washington with support from Nevada partners, including Ironwood, which used 3D LIDAR in the selection.
