Overview
- Mowbray, Rosebank, Rondebosch, Rondebosch East and Newlands are scheduled for meter replacements between February and May 2026, with Mitchells Plain newly included.
- Teams will also return to Green Point, Sea Point and Observatory to complete outstanding installations from earlier phases.
- The programme replaces older credit meters and some prepaid units at no charge, and the new meters remain City property and only measure usage.
- Officials emphasize that electricity charges do not change because of meter type, while the smart meters provide real-time usage data to help residents manage costs.
- Residents will be contacted by letter or phone to book an approximately one-hour installation, and can verify appointments via 0860 103 089 or mrp@capetown.gov.za and by checking work-order numbers and City ID cards, reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement or SAPS.
