Overview
- Capcom presented the REX initiative at Capcom Open Conference RE:2026 on October 2, describing a multi-year plan to evolve its existing RE Engine so tools and AI can work with its code and data.
- REX bundles several subsystems — including RE:Dox for standardized data and RE:Log for compact telemetry — and Capcom has already open-sourced RE:Dox and RE:Log to support interoperability and AI training.
- The company said REX will enable AI-assisted workflows that can generate or transform code and run autonomous playtests that judge a build via screen and audio to surface bugs for QA teams.
- Capcom reiterated it will not ship assets generated by AI, framing REX as tooling to boost developer productivity and reduce repetitive work rather than a replacement for human-crafted game content.
- The REX work builds on RE Engine’s decade-long role at Capcom, which powers roughly 27–30 titles, and could speed iteration for thousands of developers while shifting more testing and low-level coding tasks toward automated systems.
