Overview
- Capcom disclosed technical details of the REX project at its CAPCOM Open Conference RE:2026 and is now moving to a phased rollout of REX components across teams and titles.
- REX adds specific tools such as RE++, which translates developer-friendly code into the engine format, and a centralized RE log and registry to unify data and make systems easier to inspect.
- Parts of the new tooling have already been released as open source so external developers can inspect and reuse components and so the code can inform future AI models.
- Capcom says it will use generative AI to speed tasks in graphics, sound and programming and to build systems that can understand code and run automated tests, but it will not include AI-generated assets in final shipped game content.
- The update targets efficiency for more than 2,000 in-house developers who already use RE Engine and mirrors a wider industry shift toward AI tooling that could speed testing, reduce repetitive work and change day-to-day developer roles.
