Canyoneer Falls to Death in Zion National Park Accident

A 40-year-old man died after a fall of up to 200 feet while canyoneering in Heaps Canyon, as authorities investigate the cause.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening near the exit of Heaps Canyon in Zion National Park, Utah.
The man was part of a group of four canyoneers following a permitted itinerary when he fell.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies provided medical aid, but the man was pronounced dead before hospital transport.
Two of the remaining canyoneers were extracted by helicopter, while the third rappelled to safety with assistance.
Zion National Park and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office are conducting an ongoing investigation into the accident.
