Overview
- Canva announced on Wednesday that roughly 1,271 people, about 22% of its global staff, will be affected by a reorganisation that includes layoffs, role changes and relocations.
- The firm will merge Product, Growth and Platform into a single product organisation, cut management layers and make Sydney the primary hub with most hybrid staff expected in the office two to three days a week from January.
- Canva is offering departing or displaced employees at least six months’ pay, up to 12 months of healthcare where provided, the ability to keep work MacBooks, US$10,000 grants to start ventures, and some equity-vesting concessions for recent hires.
- The company has not disclosed how many of the 1,271 affected roles are permanent job losses versus relocations or new roles, leaving the exact headcount impact uncertain for employees and teams.
- The move follows slowing growth for the first time in a decade and investor valuation downgrades earlier this year, a sign that new creation technologies and industry pressure are pushing large design platforms to cut costs and reshuffle talent.
