Canva Launches AI 2.0, Recasting Its Design App as an AI-First Creative Platform

A phased release makes an AI creative partner the default workflow for hundreds of millions of users.

Overview

  • Canva AI 2.0, announced Thursday at the Canva Create event in Los Angeles, is rolling out first to one million users on the homepage with broader access planned in the coming weeks.
  • The new experience lets people describe what they want by text or voice, then produces full, editable designs that can be refined in a single conversational flow.
  • Tools now include object-level editing, a memory that learns brand styles, offline work, web search inside designs, and workflow automation through connectors to Slack, Gmail and Google Drive.
  • Canva expanded interoperability by embedding its design engine in Anthropic’s Claude and by enabling content from ChatGPT and other assistants to move into Canva for full editing and publishing.
  • The company cites about 250 million monthly users and 32 million paying users, and says its in-house models such as Proteus and Lucid Origin are up to seven times faster and up to 30 times cheaper than alternatives.
