Marcus Pettersson has signed a six-year, $33 million contract extension with the Vancouver Canucks, carrying an average annual value (AAV) of $5.5 million.
The 28-year-old defenseman was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins last week in a trade that also brought forward Drew O’Connor to Vancouver.
Pettersson has made an immediate impact in his first two games with the Canucks, showcasing his leadership and defensive skills.
The deal was finalized as Pettersson was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the current season.
Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin praised Pettersson's poise, hockey intelligence, and contributions on both ends of the ice.
