Canucks Place Jack Thompson on NHL Waivers
The move allows Vancouver to assign Thompson to AHL Abbotsford as he returns from a preseason facial injury.
Overview
- Vancouver placed defenseman Jack Thompson on NHL waivers on Sunday to clear the way for an AHL assignment.
- Thompson is reported healthy after being struck in the face by a puck during Canucks preseason and has not played this season.
- He scored three goals and 13 points in 14 games with Abbotsford late last season and has 104 points in 217 AHL games.
- Thompson joined the Canucks organization in a March trade that sent Jett Woo to San Jose and signed a one-year, two-way contract with Vancouver over the summer.
- If no team claims him he is expected to start the 2026-27 season in Abbotsford as a top right-side defender, though any claim on waivers would keep him on an NHL roster and change Vancouver’s plans.
