Cantaloupes Recalled in Five States for Possible Salmonella Contamination
The FDA has announced a recall of Kandy-brand cantaloupes distributed by Eagle Produce LLC, urging consumers to dispose of the affected fruit immediately.
- 224 cases of whole cantaloupes were distributed in Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia between August 13 and 17.
- The recall was prompted by routine sample testing by Michigan officials, which detected salmonella in the cantaloupes.
- Consumers who bought the recalled cantaloupes are advised not to consume them and to discard them immediately.
- No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall at this time.
- Symptoms of salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, particularly dangerous for young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
