Overview

  • From 2026, only one cruise ship carrying over 3,000 passengers will be allowed to dock daily, with an overall passenger cap of 6,000 per day.
  • Annual visits by large vessels will drop to 34 in 2026 and further to 31 in 2027 before stricter size limits take effect.
  • By around 2030, only ships with up to 1,300 passengers will be permitted to anchor offshore, aiming to promote smaller, eco-friendly vessels.
  • The Cruise Lines International Association called the restrictions unjustified limitations that could undermine port vitality.
  • Since 2019, an environmental charter has governed cruise operations in Cannes and violations result in passengers being banned from excursions.
