Candidate Loses Election by One Vote After Not Voting for Himself

Damion Green, a candidate for the city council in Rainier, Washington, lost the election by a single vote after deciding not to vote for himself.
Green's opponent, Ryan Roth, who did vote for himself, was declared the winner with a vote count of 247-246.
The election was so close that it took nearly a month for officials to determine the winner, with a hand recount of 555 ballots conducted by three Thurston County elections workers.
Despite his loss, Green expressed no regret over his decision to abstain from voting, attributing his loss to a lack of divine intervention and maintaining that the election was a 'win-win' regardless of the outcome.
Green, who also ran for city council about four years ago in an unsuccessful write-in campaign, plans to run for city council again in the future.
