Canadian Paraglider Found Dead, Austrian Rescued in Himachal’s Dhauladhar Range

Authorities initiated a post-mortem with a formal inquiry following helicopter-supported recoveries in high-altitude terrain.

Overview

  • Officials identified the deceased as 27-year-old Megan Elizabeth Roberts, whose glider crashed near Talan Jot at roughly 3,900 metres after she lost her route.
  • Her body was brought to Kangra via Gaggal and will undergo a post-mortem at Tanda Medical College before handover to her family and the Canadian embassy.
  • Austrian pilot Jacob Krammer, 47, was located in the Polling-Barot/Dehanasar area and was airlifted, dropped at Chogan in Bir, and taken for hospital checks.
  • Rescuers used satellite-phone coordinates, air-dropped team member Rahul Singh to the crash site, and shifted the body to about 10,000 feet after a chopper failed to land higher.
  • Both pilots had launched separately from the Bir-Billing site, triggering a coordinated operation by the Kangra administration and the Billing Paragliding Association.
