Canadian firefighter dies battling Northwest Territories wildfire as record blazes rage

A firefighter from Fort Liard, Northwest Territories died while battling a wildfire near his home community on Saturday.
The firefighter sustained fatal injuries while combating a blaze that started on July 7, southeast of Fort Liard.
Wildfires across Canada have set records for total area burned and impacted air quality in the U.S. and Canada.
There are currently 89 active wildfires burning in the Northwest Territories, which have burned nearly 867,000 hectares of land so far this year.
Another firefighter, Devyn Gale, was killed by a falling tree while battling a wildfire in British Columbia on Thursday.
