Maj. Dave Peabody, 48, was a Calgary-based army reservist and curator of The Military Museums in Calgary.
He died in an off-duty ice-climbing accident in Kootenay National Park, British Columbia, on December 26, 2024.
Peabody served in Afghanistan in 2011 and 2012 and played a key role in wildfire response efforts in Jasper, Alberta, last summer.
He joined the Canadian Forces in 2007, later transitioning to the Calgary Highlanders as a senior officer in the reserves.
Military leaders and colleagues praised Peabody as an inspiring leader, expressing deep condolences to his family and loved ones.
