Overview

  • The population rose by just 20,107 people from January 1 to April 1, reaching 41,548,787.
  • This marks the smallest quarterly increase since the third quarter of 2020 and the second-slowest growth rate on record.
  • All net growth in the first quarter came from 104,256 new immigrants, as there were 5,628 more deaths than births.
  • Net emigration reached 17,410 and the number of non-permanent residents fell by 61,111.
  • The slowdown extends a trend of six consecutive quarters of weaker growth following 2024 federal cuts to immigration levels.
