Overview

  • ETS was designated on August 21 as an approved testing organization and is coordinating implementation with IRCC.
  • Acceptance will cover federal economic programs, including Express Entry streams and the Atlantic Immigration Program, while Provincial Nominee Program uptake will be decided by each province.
  • IRCC says it will update its website when it begins accepting TOEFL Essentials scores and will share the launch date and locations once confirmed.
  • TOEFL Essentials is a 90‑minute, task‑based test at secure centres that provides instant unofficial listening and reading results and official scores typically within six days, with free score reporting to multiple recipients.
  • For now, IRCC’s approved English tests remain CELPIP, IELTS and PTE Core, with results assessed against the Canadian Language Benchmarks.
