Canada Runs Nationwide Alert Ready Test Today Across TV, Radio and Phones

Officials will evaluate delivery performance using public feedback collected after the alert.

Overview

  • The test is scheduled province by province, including Ontario at 12:55 p.m. EST, B.C. at 1:55 p.m. PST and Alberta at 1:55 p.m. MST.
  • The message will be clearly marked as a test and requires no action, though some devices may need an acknowledgement or will sound and vibrate for about eight seconds.
  • Alerts will reach television, radio and compatible LTE-connected wireless devices, and receipt can be affected by device compatibility, network connection, coverage and notification settings.
  • Environment and Climate Change Canada issues severe weather alerts, while police are responsible for civil emergencies and AMBER alerts within the system.
  • Some carriers may run silent checks before the scheduled time, and system administrators will invite the public to complete a short post-test survey.
