Canada Reweights Express Entry to Favor High‑Wage Workers

The government will award large new Comprehensive Ranking System point boosts to candidates tied to high‑wage jobs to better align selection with labour‑market needs.

Overview

  • Starting Nov. 3, 2026, IRCC will give up to 100 additional CRS points for qualifying high‑wage job offers and up to 70 points for eligible Canadian high‑wage work experience.
  • The new job‑offer points will not require a Labour Market Impact Assessment and officers will instead check offers for genuineness.
  • IRCC will automatically recalculate scores for candidates already in the Express Entry pool and has paused invitation rounds while recalculation proceeds, a process it says may take up to two weeks.
  • Recent category draws that issued invitations on Oct. 15 and Oct. 16 — 2,500 Canadian Experience Class ITAs at a 519 cut‑off and 5,000 French‑language ITAs at 435 — will be next in line to see how rankings shift under the new rules.
  • IRCC defines a 'high‑wage' occupation as one with a median wage at least 1.3 times the national median and will use Job Bank, the Labour Force Survey and Census data to decide which occupations qualify, a change that could reshape which occupations and nationalities rise in pool rankings.
