Overview

• Under a new policy enacted by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, all federally regulated employers in Canada are now required to provide free menstrual products in all restrooms, regardless of gender designation.
• The policy applies to all federal public service departments, crown corporations, banks, airports, and train yards.
• The menstrual products are intended for employee use and not for members of the public.
• The policy change was spurred by a petition launched in 2020 by Here for Her founder Rachel Ettinger that sought to treat menstrual products as necessities.
• The policy went into effect on Dec. 15, 2023.
