Canada Marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation With Federal Gathering, Local Events and Orange Tributes

  • ‘Remembering the Children’ will be held on Parliament Hill and broadcast nationally, with APTN and CBC carrying the ceremony and CHEK airing it as part of a full day of special coverage.
  • Toronto’s Indigenous Legacy Gathering returns to Nathan Phillips Square Sept. 29–30 with drumming, dancing, teachings, workshops and an Indigenous marketplace hosted by Toronto Council Fire Native Cultural Centre.
  • Cities are flying the Survivors Flag, lowering flags and lighting landmarks orange, with Edmonton highlighting bridge and building illuminations, orange ribbons on city vehicles and programming at Fort Edmonton Park.
  • Cultural and educational institutions are expanding access, including free admission at the Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum, a Laurentian University symposium with a keynote by Kimberly Murray, and community events across Metro Vancouver.
  • As a federal statutory holiday, banks and federal offices are closed while many transit systems run regular service and municipal operations vary by location, with local notices detailing specific closures, hours and waste collection changes.
