Canada Invests $25 Million in EV Charging and Clean Freight Initiatives

The funding lowers operating costs for freight operators through grants for natural-gas trucks with renewable fuel conversions.

Overview

  • Natural Resources Canada allocated more than $9.7 million under the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program to 23 projects that will deploy over 850 new EV chargers nationwide.
  • Eight million dollars under the Energy Innovation Program will back six demonstration projects targeting medium- and heavy-duty vehicle technologies, including battery pack prototypes, energy storage systems and smart charging solutions.
  • The Green Freight Program awarded $7.9 million to four fleet-modernization initiatives, highlighted by a $5 million grant to C. A.T. Inc. for 100 natural-gas Class 8 trucks.
  • Propulsion Québec received a $3 million top-up grant to install up to 320 Level 2 chargers toward its goal of 1,000 chargers across Québec.
  • Zone Signature will build four 24/7 smart fast-charging stations in Québec featuring 15 chargers per site powered partially by solar panels and battery energy storage systems.
