Canada Invests $20 Million to Strengthen British Columbia's Forest Sector

  • The Canadian government has allocated over $20 million to 67 projects aimed at boosting the competitiveness and resilience of British Columbia's forest sector.
  • More than $11.3 million will fund six projects under the Investments in Forest Industry Transformation (IFIT) program, promoting low-carbon technologies and diversified revenue streams.
  • Over $7 million is dedicated to 50 Indigenous Forestry Initiative (IFI) projects to enhance Indigenous leadership and economic opportunities in forest stewardship.
  • An additional $1.6 million will support nine Green Construction through Wood (GCWood) projects to commercialize wood-based products in construction, with $600,000 allocated to strengthening international partnerships.
  • A separate $5 million has been committed to retraining programs for displaced workers in the forestry and mining sectors across British Columbia and Yukon.
