Canada Ends Temporary Extra Screening for India-Bound Travelers

The measures, introduced earlier this week citing safety concerns, were lifted following tensions over alleged Indian government actions in Canada.

The Canadian government has removed additional security screening measures for travelers flying to India, initially introduced as a precautionary step.
Transport Minister Anita Anand announced earlier this week that the measures would be temporary and implemented out of an 'abundance of caution.'
The heightened screenings followed a bomb scare on an Air India flight in October, which led to an emergency landing in Iqaluit; no bomb was found.
The decision also comes amid strained Canada-India relations, with the RCMP recently linking Indian agents to crimes targeting the Sikh community in Canada.
India has denied the allegations, and both countries expelled six diplomats each, escalating diplomatic tensions.
