Canada Awards $753 Million Contract to Bombardier for Six RCAF Global 6500 Jets

The purchase is being run through the new Defence Investment Agency to accelerate delivery of a Canadian-built fleet.

Overview

  • The Global 6500 aircraft will replace the RCAF’s CC-144 Challengers used for VIP transport and utility missions such as aeromedical evacuation, disaster relief, humanitarian aid and national security operations.
  • The first jet is expected to arrive in the summer of 2027 with initial operational capability planned by the end of 2027.
  • The agreement covers military modifications as well as training for aircrew and maintenance personnel.
  • Production will be assembled in the Greater Toronto Area with completion in Greater Montreal, drawing on more than 60 Canadian suppliers and supporting over 900 direct and indirect jobs.
  • Bombardier reports the order at approximately $400 million U.S. on its books based on list price and the cost of modifications.
