Move Aims to Ease Housing and Healthcare Pressures Amid Record Immigration

Canada has announced a two-year cap on international student visas, aiming to reduce new study visas by 35% in 2024.
The move is in response to pressures on housing, healthcare and other services due to record immigration.
Immigration Minister Marc Miller stated that the international students program has been exploited by institutions offering 'sham' degrees.
Miller also highlighted that the cap is not intended to target individual international students, but to ensure they receive the quality of education they signed up for.
The cap will be reassessed at the end of 2024 for potential adjustments in 2025.
