Overview
- Federal and provincial governments have pledged $77 million for 15 broadband projects serving more than 6,900 households, including over 1,200 in Indigenous communities
- An additional $7 million from the Universal Broadband Fund will bring high-speed internet to 727 homes in Spallumcheen and Hullcar and extend mobile coverage along 120 kilometres of road
- CityWest Cable & Telephone Corp. and TELUS Communications Inc. have been selected to deploy fibre and wireless infrastructure across the new project areas
- These investments build on the 2022 Connecting Communities BC program, which plans up to $830 million to link rural, remote, and Indigenous communities in the province
- Officials say the latest funding keeps Canada on track to hit its target of 98% high-speed internet coverage by 2026 and complete universal access by 2030
