Overview

  • Camp East Montana will begin operations on August 17 with 1,000 beds and expand to 5,000 in the following weeks and months
  • Acquisition Logistics LLC received a $231.8 million firm-fixed-price contract to establish and operate the facility despite no prior detention experience
  • ICE will oversee daily management and use the site to decompress overcrowded facilities before referring migrants with final orders to ICE Air Operations
  • Upon full build-out, the center will eclipse all others to become the largest federal migrant detention facility in U.S. history
  • Advocates and some lawmakers warn military involvement could strain defense readiness and raise human rights concerns over tent-based detention conditions
