Camden County Man Pleads Guilty to Aggravated Manslaughter in N.J. Refrigerator Body Case

Prosecutors will seek at least 17 years at a Dec. 5 sentencing.

Overview

  • Christopher R. Blevins, 46, entered the plea Monday in Camden County in the death of his girlfriend, Laura Hughes, 50.
  • He remains charged in Cape May County with desecrating human remains and hindering apprehension.
  • Hughes’ body was found Dec. 22 in an abandoned refrigerator in Belleplain State Forest, and investigators identified her using a distinctive yoga mat, a necklace, and tattoos.
  • Authorities say license plate readers spotted Blevins’ pickup hauling a refrigerator-shaped object in late July 2024, and the appliance recovered in the forest was wrapped in a sleeping bag, blue ratchet straps, and carpet.
  • Investigators say Blevins crossed into Mexico on Aug. 2, 2024, surrendered there later that month, then was later detained in San Diego and extradited to New Jersey after returning to the United States.
